Static performance of square CFDST chord to steel SHS brace T-joints

In this paper, static performance of square concrete-filled double-skin steel tube (CFDST) chord to hollow section (SHS) brace T-joints are investigated through experimental and numerical studies. Twelve specimens, including 8 with CFDST chord, 2 (CFST) SHS as counterparts, were tested under continuously increasing compressive force on the concentric compression load applied simultaneously chord. The influence type, brace-to-chord width ratio (?) level (n) was examined. It is found that composite have enhanced than their counterparts. For T-joints, failure pattern varies from compression-flexure-shear local buckling when ? reduces. Moreover, while only occurs, bearing capacity specimens augments growing (?), n; however, joints fails, type has a moderate specimens. simulated using finite element (FE) model, which validated against observations in experiment. On basis research, design formulae for developed, good accuracy computations achieved.
